School House Apartments

Project Summary

School House Apartments, LLC is a landmark mixed-income housing complex in the heart of Ft. Madison, IA. Formerly a 1920’s era schoolhouse, the historic building has been repurposed into forty-one apartments and one auditorium dedicated to community use.

School House Apartments LLC worked in close collaboration with Ideal Energy to design an innovative, cost-effective 300 kW photovoltaic array consisting of a roof-mounted system and two car ports. Residents of the mixed-income apartments benefit from reduced energy costs through a combination of energy efficiency measures implemented into the building renovation and the addition of rooftop and multiple carport photovoltaic installations that supplement the building’s energy use.
