Ideal Energy Takes Top Spot in Iowa on 2022 Top Solar Contractors List

Press Release

FAIRFIELD, IOWA, AUGUST 13, 2022 — Solar Power World has recognized Ideal Energy’s installation success by ranking it #1 engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) solar contractor in Iowa on the 2022 Top Solar Contractors list. EPC contractors offer turn-key installations and are responsible for every phase of a solar project, from design to construction to project handoff.

Two out-of-state installation subcontractors ranked ahead of Ideal Energy due to the size of their utility installations in Iowa, placing Ideal Energy #3 in the state overall. In addition, Ideal Energy came in 19th nationwide in the commercial and industrial (C&I) category.

Ideal Energy installed 32,954 kilowatts of solar power in 2021. Since its founding in 2009, the company has been a trailblazer, with a long list of firsts in the Midwest solar industry. These include the first battery energy storage system in Iowa, the state’s first use of solar in conjunction with batteries for demand charge reduction, and many projects that were the largest in Iowa at the time.

These projects have earned Ideal Energy industry recognition and a number of awards, including Iowa Environmental Council’s Business Innovation award (two times), Solar Builder Magazine Project of the Year Award, and 1,000 Friends of Iowa Best Development Award (four times) – and now a top spot on Solar Power World’s Top Solar Contractors list.

“We’re honored to be recognized for our work by Solar Power World,” said Troy Van Beek, Ideal Energy’s founder and CEO. “The last couple of years have been very challenging for the solar industry, but our team’s determination and skill brought us our biggest year yet in 2021.”

The Top Solar Contractors list is developed each year by industry magazine Solar Power World to honor the work of solar installers in the United States. Solar firms in the utility, commercial and residential markets are ranked by number of kilowatts installed in the previous year. Companies are grouped and listed by specific services, markets and states.

“The utility-scale solar market, of course, puts up huge installation numbers each year, but the majority of workers in the industry are constructing projects in the commercial and residential markets, which continue to break records,” said Kelly Pickerel, editor in chief of Solar Power World. “Over 85% of the companies on the 2022 Top Solar Contractors List primarily work in the residential and commercial sectors, and they all reported closing out the last year in a positive light.”
